Structural Analysis of Self-Standing Spout Packaging Bags

The stand-up spout pouch is an emerging type of liquid packaging bag that has evolved from the stand-up pouch.

The structure of a stand-up pouch with a spout is primarily divided into two parts: the spout and the stand-up pouch. The pouch portion is structurally identical to a conventional four-seal stand-up pouch, though it typically employs composite materials to meet the diverse requirements of food packaging. The spout can be regarded as a standard bottle opening fitted with a straw. These two components are tightly integrated to form a beverage package that facilitates easy sipping; moreover, as a flexible package, it eliminates difficulties in drinking and, once sealed, minimizes product sloshing, making it an exceptionally ideal new type of beverage packaging.

The greatest advantage of stand-up pouches with spouts over conventional packaging formats lies in their portability. These pouches can be easily slipped into a backpack or even a pocket, and they shrink in volume as the contents are used up, making them even more convenient to carry. Today, soft‑drink packaging is dominated by PET bottles, composite aluminum‑foil pouches, and pull‑tab cans. As product homogenization intensifies, packaging innovation has become one of the most effective tools for achieving differentiation. Stand‑up pouches with spouts combine the resealable convenience of PET bottles with the stylish appeal of composite aluminum‑foil pouches, while also offering printing capabilities that traditional beverage packages simply cannot match. Thanks to their stand‑up design, these pouches provide a significantly larger display area than PET bottles and outperform non‑stand‑up cartons like Tetra Pak. Of course, since stand‑up pouches fall under the category of flexible packaging, they are not yet suitable for carbonated beverages; however, they hold distinct advantages for juices, dairy products, health drinks, and jelly‑type foods.

Plastic flexible packaging, such as stand-up pouches with spouts, inherently boasts lightweight construction, flexibility, minimal waste, compact storage, and high cost-effectiveness. Consequently, flexible packaging is more competitive than rigid packaging, and spouted pouches—among other forms of plastic flexible packaging—represent the most efficient means of reducing package weight, thereby exerting a profound impact on the rational use of resources.
